Tisdale hosting 3A Boys volleyball provincials

Nov 20, 2019 | 9:00 AM

Last week was the girls’ volleyball provincials, and this week, it’s the boys’ turn.

Tisdale Middle and Secondary School (TMSS) is hosting the 3A Boys provincials, starting on Friday.

Coach David Painchaud said everyone is excited to host the event for the first time since 2008.

The Tisdale Tornadoes didn’t win a medal at last weekend’s regionals in Birch Hills, but Painchaud said his team learned some valuable lessons.

“Having the opportunity to see actually higher calibre teams at some of these most recent tournaments demonstrates to them what they need to do to compete,” Painchaud said.

Painchaud said his team is “willing to put the work in at practice to improve, and they’re willing to put their best effort on the court every weekend.”

While the goal is always to win gold, Painchaud said he would be satisfied with an opportunity to be in the playoff mix.

Action in Tisdale starts at noon on Friday between Unity and Saskatoon Christian, while Shaunavon faces Birch Hills.

Wadena will play Kipling at 1 p.m., and Tisdale’s first action is against Saskatoon Christian at 2 p.m.

Painchaud thanked both local and corporate sponsors for their support in hosting the event.

There are several other local teams taking part in provincials this weekend.

The Melfort Comets and Humboldt Mohawks are vying for the title at 4A boys provincials in North Battleford.

Glaslyn hosts the 1A boys provincials, and Muenster and Annaheim are both taking part.

There are no local teams at 2A boys provincials in Wilkie.
