Successful Dancing with the Stars event in Naicam

Nov 25, 2019 | 5:02 PM

“Wow!”

That was the reaction of North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) Executive Director Louise Schweitzer, when asked about her reaction to this weekend’s Dancing with the Stars event in Naicam.

“The talent in the dancers was amazing, the skill levels that were there and the expertise that they showed on the floor was absolutely outstanding,” Schweitzer said.

The fundraising event was a sellout, and while NEOSS is still tabulating the money raised, Schweitzer estimated it could be in the area of $10,000 or more.

Schweitzer said she appreciates the dedication of the dancers who volunteered for the fundraiser.

“They start practicing in September,” Schweitzer said. “They practice weekly until into November and then they start to practice a couple of times a week. So once again the commitment that they put towards putting on the show that they do is unbelievable.”

The dancers also fundraise by getting pledges, and have family and friends purchase tickets to watch them dance.

Schweitzer said the support NEOSS sees at events like Dancing with the Stars is enlightening and empowering.

“The dollars that are raised from these kinds of events are what help us provide the programming that changes lives for the people that cross our threshold for ongoing service, or to stay with us for a short time period,” Schweitzer said. “The people that support these events are truly a piece of [NEOSS] in assisting and changing lives in our community for the better for each and every individual we work with. So thank you to each and every one of you for doing that.”

Another NEOSS fundraiser will be held in the coming weeks.

The NEOSS Holiday Tradeshow will be held at the RECplex in Tisdale Dec. 7. There will be several items for sale ahead of the Christmas season, and Schweitzer said they will also have material on hand for awareness purposes.
