Shutout in Saskatoon

Trojans can’t tickle twine against league-leading Blazers

Nov 29, 2019 | 9:34 AM

The Tisdale Trojans just couldn’t get the offence going on Thursday as they fell 5-0 to the Saskatoon Blazers in Saskatoon.

Tisdale was outshot 16-5 in the first, and we’re down 14-1 on the shot clock at one point in the frame, but escaped without any goals on the board.

“We were kind of on our heels in the first period,” said Assistant Coach Daven Smith. “Started to wear down after that one, and they came out and kept pouring it on in the second and obviously pucks started to go in, that’s how it goes in hockey games, so got to give them credit for keeping the grind going there.”

Nolan Flamand scored about eight minutes into the second, and Alec Saretzky scored six minutes later before Braxton Buckberger made it 3-0 just two minutes before the end of the frame. Tisdale seemed to have some more push back in the second, only getting outshot 12-9.

In the third, Tisdale opened the period with a few great shifts, but just could not seem to get the sustained pressure needed to put the puck in the net. They only managed 21 shots on Brett Mirwald who got the win and shutout for the Blazers.

Nolan Flamands second of the night and a Liam Bell powerplay goal late added salt to the wound as the Blazers racked up five goals on 43 shots. Hunter Lolacher stopped 38 pucks in the loss for Tisdale, and Smith said there’s really no blame to place on his goalie.

“It sucks for him that five end up going by,” Smith said. “He hasn’t played a bad game yet this year, he’s really hanging in there. He gives us a chance to win every single night, so it sucks to see that happen to him.”

Tisdale is back in game action this weekend when they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors to the Tisdale RecPlex for a pair of games.
