Snow Removal in Nipawin

Residents urged to help Town of Nipawin ahead of significant snowfalls

Dec 5, 2019 | 12:00 PM

The Town of Nipawin is asking residents to help them out when it comes to clearing snow in the community.

While there isn’t much snow yet, the town is urging people to allow the Public Works department to grade local streets.

“Just a gentle reminder early in the season to encourage people to help the process along by trying to keep obstructions out of the way, and allow the public works crew to clean the roads safely and effectively,” Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Barry Elliott said.

Vehicles parked on streets for extended periods of time after a snowfall can prevent the grader from clearing the road effectively. That can adversely affect neighbouring properties, and Elliott told northeastNOW there is a bylaw that requires vehicles to be moved on a reasonably regular basis.

“Such things as unattended trailers, etc. out on the street tend to get in the way also,” said Elliott. “We just ask people to be mindful of the weather and the work that’s trying to get done.”

Elliott said the clearing of snow from residential properties onto roadways is also prohibited in Nipawin.

“In commercial areas where there [are] sidewalks immediately adjacent to the roadways, often times there is no other place to push the snow except out onto the gutter area so that’s likely to continue,” said Elliott.
