The opening payout in the new Touchdown for Kids Millionaire Lottery has gone to a woman in Swift Current. Christine Newton won $500,000.

The lottery is a partnership between the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. The funds raised will go to support amateur sport, education, health and wellness initiatives for the province’s youth, as well as the enhancement of maternal and children’s health care in Saskatchewan and at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

In a media release Thursday, the lottery organizers said one lucky person will still win the grand prize of $1 million to be drawn Dec. 19. The deadline to buy a ticket is Dec. 11 at 11 p.m.

There are also hundreds of other prizes including 13 brand new vehicles and six luxury vacation packages.
