Tisdale raised author donates books for children receiving medical care over the holidays

A Tisdale raised author has made a donation to the Children’s hospital in Saskatoon as well as Ronald McDonald House (RMH).

Amber Antymniuk’s book, H is for Home: A Saskatchewan Alphabet will be distributed to families receiving care over the holidays.

“Since I started the book, I have wanted to reach as many kids in Saskatchewan as I could and I know that it’s not always easy to buy books so I wanted to have all families have access to the book,” Antymniuk said.

In partnership with Houghton Boston Printers and Cooke Insurance, 840 total copies went to RMH and another 840 are going to the children’s hospital.

The Ronald McDonald House will put a copy of the book in welcome bags given to families upon their arrival. The bags typically include basic toiletries, a deck of cards, colouring books, notepad, and hand sanitizer.

Each month, an average of 119 families stay at RMH.

The Children’s Hospital will be using the books in the Child Life Zone that supports long-term programming for pediatric patients and their families. The Saskatchewan “Zone” will be the first in Canada and will help children cope with medical challenges through play, education, and self-expression.

“It is printed in Saskatoon and it has illustrations and a storyline that reflects Saskatchewan,” Antymniuk said.

In working with editor Donald Ward from Saskatoon, the book was published in May of 2019 and has gone to print three times.
