An annual event in the northeast returns to Tisdale for the second straight year.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will be held May 26 at the Tisdale Town Square.

North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) hosts the event each year to both raise money for its programming, and raise awareness about domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence.

The event has men walk a mile in red high heels as a symbol of the pain and suffering victims of violence feel each day.

NEOSS Executive Director Louise Schweitzer told northeastNOW the Walk a Mile committee chose to hold the event in Tisdale again following last year’s success.

“We are currently sending out letters now for sponsors to help sponsor the event. We always need volunteers at the event, and we definitely encourage organizations to put teams of staff in and to sponsor them, or come in as individuals,” Schweitzer said.

You can register at the NEOSS office in Melfort, or at the RECPlex in Tisdale. Once you register, you are given a pledge sheet, and there are prizes for the most money raised as an individual, and as a team.

“Those dollars come to [NEOSS] and are used back within your community to support programs and services that we provide to assist those victims of domestic, sexual, or gender violence,” she said.

Schweitzer encouraged everyone in northeast Saskatchewan to take part in this year’s event as violence can and does affect everyone.
