As of Monday, March 23, the province confirmed 14 more cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan, bringing the total to 66 reported cases.

Two of those cases are individuals in the five to 19 age category. The other 64 cases are adults.

In a media release, the provincial government did not specify what area of the province the latest cases are located in.

According to broad regional data released by the province, there are three confirmed cases in the province’s North. There are seven confirmed, and one presumptive case in the region known as Central (excluding Saskatoon). This region includes cities such as Prince Albert and the Battlefords.

No specific locations provided

Right now, information on the location of COVID-19 cases is broken down by region.

The province’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said the government is not releasing the names of communities to protect individuals’ privacy, and everyone, regardless of where they live, should take stringent precautions to protect against the virus.

“We don’t want to give this impression that it’s just a risk in that community and everyone else doesn’t need to take all the precautions that they need to take,” he said.

Additionally he explained some cases pose no risk to the community.

“Even if we were to disclose location, if someone has isolated for two weeks there’s no risk actually irrespective of where a person is,” Shahab said. “If someone has not, public health is doing that detailed investigation to notify people who were close contacts.”

To date, 5,269 tests for the virus have been performed at the province’s Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory.
