Humboldt family inviting public to hang Easter eggs on their fence

A family in Humboldt is putting their efforts into brightening up the community amidst the gloom the COVID-19 pandemic has presented.

After just one day of inviting the public to post handmade Easter eggs on their fence, the Compagna family now has around 40 eggs displayed to the public.

Amanda told northeastNOW the idea came from the Easter Egg Hunt 2020 with Social Distancing Facebook group created last week.

“My son pointed out that with the trees and fence in our front yard that no one would see our eggs if we hung them on our windows or door,” Amanda said. “My daughter then suggested that we put them on our fence because then people would see them when they went by.”

After posting their own eggs, Amanda made a Facebook post on her personal page, inviting the community to join in the fun and make their own eggs to add to their fence.

Amanda’s children who are 10 and 12 are really enjoying the project and it gives them something to look forward to with being at home from school for the foreseeable future.

“Kids are probably getting bored and missing their friends so this is maybe something that will get them doing an activity and bring them a little bit of happiness,” Zoey said.

Four or five pictures were added late on Monday because there were definitely more there when Zoey went out to check on Tuesday morning.

“I hope doing something like this will bring some happiness to the community because I think that everyone is fairly sad and have a lot of scary feelings,” Dylan said. “Maybe when people drive by it will bring a smile to their face.”

Amanda has now received numerous inquiries from people out of town wanting to make additions.

“I have got emails from people in Ontario and Alberta asking if they can send eggs in the mail that we could add,” Amanda said.

Eggs can be mailed to the The Egg Fence, Box 1594, Humboldt, Sask. S0K 2A0.

“If they could include their location on the eggs as well, then everyone can see where they have come from,” Amanda said.

The Easter Egg Hunt 2020 with Social Distancing Facebook group contains numerous posts and photos from around the world of what people are coming up with in decorating their own windows, doors and yards while they are isolated at home. The group has nearly 103,000 members as of Tuesday morning.
