MTA Virtual Networking Night

Melfort Trade Alliance hosting ‘Virtual Networking Night’ on Thursday

Apr 15, 2020 | 5:00 PM

The Melfort Trade Alliance (MTA) is bringing local business together on Thursday… remotely of course.

The MTA normally tries to hold networking nights every month, but as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, that has been put on hold, at least in person. Treasurer Tara Muntain said after they had seen other groups doing meetings over Zoom, they thought it would be a good idea for them to try something similar.

Joining business owners at the networking night will be MLA Todd Goudy, MP Randy Hoback, and Ryan Philipation who is the Public Health Inspector with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Muntain said with many different resources for small businesses from both provincial and federal governments, this will allow business owners to get a bit more clarity.

“If there’s any questions pertaining to your business and how to access [the resources],” Muntain told northeastNOW. “Either the answers will be there, or the contact for people to go to is going to be there.”

Goudy is set to give a presentation from the provincial government. Hoback will not be able to answer questions immediately, but will receive questions and discuss them individually after. Philipation was presented with a few questions and the answers will be shared at the meeting.

Muntain said the networking night will be a good thing to be able to catch up with fellow business owners, talk about what they are doing during this time, and make sure everyone is doing well.

“It’s not only just physical healthy, but mental healthy too,” she said. “So it’s important to just connect and have this opportunity out there.”

Muntain added they hope doing events like this can keep the business community in Melfort together and strong.

“It’s a great way to unify and work together on making sure that Melfort survives this,” she said. “And make sure that the fewest number of businesses are going to fail. We want to be there to support them and keep our economy strong.”

Businesses on the MTA mailing list have already been contacted about the event, according to Muntain. She said anyone who has not received the notice about the networking night is asked to contact the MTA either by email or social media.
