Grass fires continue to pop up in the Melfort region, keeping local firefighters busy.

On Wednesday, May 6, the department responded to a pair of grass fires.

The first was around 6 p.m. just three miles west of Melfort on Highway 41. The blaze was about half a mile long in the ditch and crews were able to fight the blaze from both sides until it was extinguished.

Then, later that night around 10 p.m., crews were called out to Highway 368 just three miles west of Pathlow. The blaze was about the size of a football field, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
