Creative minds wanted for Fairy Garden project in Melfort

Creative minds are being invited to paint doors for a Fairy Garden at Spruce Haven Park in Melfort.

The city is asking adult artists as well as artists nine years and older to sign up for painting days happening on Monday and Tuesday at Memorial Garden.

“Al Jardine and Colleen Kirkham have cut out wooden doors and we will let the artists decorate them how they want,” program coordinator Kathy Gray said. “We will then place them around Spruce Haven and it’ll just be fun to go out and search and see if you can find all of the doors.”

The first painting day will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday with eight spots open for adults. On Tuesday, at the same time there are eight more spots open for the younger artists.

“We felt Memorial Garden was a nice central location where we can set up tables and keep the physical distancing,” Gray said.

Supplies will be laid out on each table as well to adhere to the public health protocols due to COVID-19.

To start with, there are the 16 doors to be painted and designed.

“We are limiting it just because of physical distancing but we would look at adding a day if we get a good response,” Gray said.

Gray said they are hoping for a phase two of the project that would expand to other areas of the community.

The doors will be placed on the base of trees throughout the Spruce Haven Recreation area.

Register for painting a door by calling 306-752-4177 or email kvc@melfort.ca.

“The Spruce Haven area is such a great place and so this is a great place to start with for now,” Gray said.
