City of Melfort hosting disc golf learn to play day

The City of Melfort is looking to increase recreation capacity in the community with a disc golf learn to play day.

A workshop will take place at Rotary Park which boasts a three par, nine-hole disc golf course.

Recreation Programmer Shannon Marshall told northeastNOW there will be representatives on hand from the Disc Golf Association of Saskatchewan.

“Disc Golf is an emerging sport in Saskatchewan and is really a great one for all ages, so we wanted to get the community on board and teach them about the great sport,” Marshall said. “It is gaining popularity in the province and there is even now a UDisc golf app and the Melfort course is located on it.”

Inquiries have also come into the city about the disc golf course over the last while making this a perfect time to bring some information on the sport to the area.

The workshop begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m. on July 18 and is free of charge.

“This is just a drop-in format so whenever you have time, just pop in,” Marshall said.

Participants will be able to enter into win one of two, three-piece disc golf set as well.

“This will be just another great activity for families to participate in over the summer,” Marshall said.

The city continues to offer the community ambassador program at the Burke and Brunswick Kinsmen playground for kids ages five to 12.

The fairy forest and tree carving’s at Spruce Haven park is also a new attraction for the city.

Play kits filled with different yard games and activities are still available to be rented each week as well.
