Food truck wars coming to the northeast

Jul 8, 2020 | 12:00 PM

With markets being given the green light by the Saskatchewan Health Authority, food truck wars will make its way to the northeast.

Tisdale and Melfort will both play host to food trucks and vendors this summer.

Jesse Lewis with Holey Cow Events said both events will be compliant with the COVID-19 guidelines.

“I’m talking to health officers everywhere I’m going; we are basically doing the same as grocery stores,” Lewis said. “We are spaced out, making sure people are six feet apart, only one entrance and one exit and supplying hand sanitizer.”

There are no outdoor gathering limits on markets making these types of events possible.

There is a limit of ten food trucks that can attend each event, according to foodtruckwars.ca. There are still spots to fill for food trucks as well as vendors.

Those interested can contact Lewis through the Holey Cow Events Facebook page.

“We have vendors from honey vendors, jewelry vendors and novelty vendors coming,” Lewis said.

Feedback on the events coming to the area has been positive so far, according to Lewis.

“There has been some people that have expressed concerned about COVID but it will definitely be safe for all,” Lewis said.

All fairs that typically pop-up in the province over the summer have been cancelled so these events will serve as a way to fill that fair food fix.

“Everything has been shut down and this might end up being one of the only community events happening on a somewhat larger scale in the coming months,” Lewis said. “As long as we follow the rules and guidelines that is the only way we are going to be able to move forward and actually have events.”

The Tisdale event will be happening on July 18 and 19 at town square while Melfort is scheduled for Aug. 1 and 2 at the exhibition grounds.

Each event is held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“With them being two day events there will a lot of time and space for people to come through and still be safe,” he said.
