Melfort Trade Alliance seeking memberships to become a chamber of commerce

Jul 21, 2020 | 11:00 AM

The Melfort Trade Alliance (MTA) is looking for businesses to sign up for a membership in the organization.

The MTA is looking to become a chamber of commerce, something Melfort hasn’t had since 2018 when the previous chamber ran into financial difficulty and ceased operation.

The trade alliance formed from the former Melfort Business Revitalization Committee in an effort to fill the void of the previous chamber.

MTA president Tyler Fahlman told northeastNOW that before COVID-19 came along, the association’s goal for this year was to lay the groundwork to become a chamber in the near future.

“We were hoping to do it as a one-year endeavour, but with COVID and everything going on it’s going to take us probably a few years to get that underway,” Fahlman said.

He added the organization needs memberships to continue doing events and to support businesses, while providing people with a voice.

Community members and business leaders have indicated to the MTA that the city needs a chamber again.

“A lot of them were sad to see the old chamber go,” Fahlman said. “We all believe that Melfort does need a chamber of commerce.”

He said the feedback he’s received has been overwhelmingly supportive of the group of business leaders that are looking to get a chamber back off the ground again.

Local businesses should have received an email with the details on the Melfort Trade Alliance’s membership drive, the organization’s goals, and contact information. You can email trademelfort@melfort.ca for more information, or visit their Facebook page.

There is also an opportunity for a business showcase advertising package.
