Candidates continue to trickle in for the upcoming municipal elections across Saskatchewan.

Adam Lewis has decided to run for town council in Tisdale this year. Lewis has lived in Saskatchewan since 1995 and has been in Tisdale since 2015. He told northeastNOW he doesn’t like to be a bystander and likes to help facilitate change.

“I’ve gotten to be involved with a lot of things in Tisdale, groups and stuff,” Lewis said. “And I just want to be able to give back to the community a bit more than what I do now.”

He said he wants to see how the town operates, the user groups operate, how money is dispersed, and the town’s plan for the future.

Lewis currently works as the general manager of the Ridgedale Co-op and has lived in numerous Saskatchewan towns and cities as a result of his work. He’s involved with the Air Cadets in Tisdale, as well as the fire department and his children are involved in a number of activities in the area including karate, and music.

Lewis said he doesn’t have any specific things he wants accomplished, but wants to see Tisdale grow. He said attracting new business, and increasing housing are two things he would like to see to help bring more people to the town.

“Town council has done a great job,” he said. “Maybe it’s just a different perspective, a different view, on where they should be going.”

The Town of Tisdale had a tax increase of one per cent this year, something Lewis said he understands and is OK with, but it did come at a difficult time during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said taxes are needed to help pay for infrastructure and the services needed in the town and so that the town doesn’t run on a deficit.

Lewis said he’s someone who sits back, listens, and doesn’t make rash decisions. He believes those attributes would make him a good councillor.

“And that’s what I think council maybe needs,” he said. “Is one more person to listen, and not speak right away.”

Even though he works in Ridgedale and his wife works in Melfort, Lewis said he’s a community man and does his best to support the local businesses and local groups.

“If I can give back to Tisdale by serving on town council or serving on committees, it makes it worth the while,” he said.
