Bentley running for mayor of Humboldt for the second time

A Humboldt resident of 25 years will take another crack at being elected as mayor of the city.

Harley Bentley ran in the 2016 municipal election and had a lot of great support and believes he has that same support this time around.

Bentley told northeastNOW Humboldt needs a change.

“We have seen a bit of a collapse in council here and there are only a couple of members vying for their seat again so it looks like it is going to be quite a new council this year,” Bentley said.

There are 14 council candidates this year consisting of seven men and seven women. There are three mayoral candidates.

“I look forward to working with them on some projects that haven’t been brought to the agenda in the past.”

With that in mind, Bentley is excited there will be new faces at the council table that can bring fresh and diverse ideas.

Bentley does consulting and event planning in the area and said he has an open mind for new ideas and wants to address some safety concerns in the city as well continuing ongoing projects.

“I have a good knowledge of the city, where it has come from and where it has gone to now,” Bentley said.

The residents of Humboldt need someone that can commit to the job, according to Bentley.

“When you are in a position of council or mayor, you have to set a lot of personal feelings aside and do what’s best for your city and the residents in it,” Bentley said.

The Saskatchewan municipal election takes place on Nov. 9.
