Ramblers, Wheatland Senior Hockey League kick off on Friday

The Wheatland Senior Hockey League (WSHL) kicks off their 2020/2021 season on Friday, Nov. 12.

It’s going to be a much different season for the entire league as they try and work around the COVID-19 pandemic. Dwight Marleau is the chief marketing officer for the Tisdale Ramblers and said the team is sticking to their bubbles the best they can to make sure the season can continue on.

“Like everybody else, we have to work with what we have to do,” he said. “It actually hasn’t turned out too bad, the guys are really buying into it. They want to play hockey, so they’re sticking pretty close to the guidelines, which is great to see.”

As for the product that’s going to be on the ice, the Ramblers feature a local lineup with a number of players with local ties. They include a number of former Melfort Mustangs, Tisdale Trojans, and Nipawin Hawks.

“It’s a nice young group,” Marleau told northeastNOW. “It’s mostly local guys that just want to compete and have fun.”

Local players on the team span from Melfort, Tisdale, and Carrot River.

With only 150 fans allowed in the rinks this year, teams are having to reserve seats ahead of time. For the Ramblers, they still have their season seat holders, but are doing reserved, single game tickets by calling Marleau.

“We’ll save at least 30 seats,” he said. “The rest we’ll just do pre-buys, or season ticket holders.”

The Ramblers will be in the North Division and play against Porcupine Plain, Naicam, Kinistino, and Watrous before merging with the South Division after Christmas.

Tisdale hosts Porcupine on Friday night and will have a guaranteed $500 50/50 sponsored by Winmar Tisdale.
