Star City man faces long list of charges after fleeing from police

A 22-year-old man from the RM of Star City faces a long list of charges after being pulled over by RCMP in Melfort on Saturday.

Around 7 p.m., Melfort Combined Traffic Services stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Higgins Avenue in the city. During the stop, the vehicle took off causing minor injuries to the officer. Police pursued the vehicle for a short distance until it went into the ditch.

The suspect was taken into custody with the help of members of the Melfort detachment and several firearms were also located in his vehicle.

William Milewicz-Murfitt was charged with assault on a police officer, assault on a police officer with a weapon, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, careless use of a firearm, flight from police, impaired operation and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and possession of the firearm knowing the possession is unauthorized.
