Former Hawk, Tisdale product commits to Marian University

A former Nipawin Hawk and Tisdale product has committed to post-secondary hockey.

Jordan Simoneau, 22 years old, has committed to Marian University in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. The Sabres play in the NCAA Division III ranks. Simoneau took a bit longer to decide to play NCAA hockey after his Junior A career came to a close with the Hawks in 2019/2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Kind of went out on a bad note with being shut down and everything, so I was kind of in the dumps about not wanting to play anymore,” Simoneau told northeastNOW. “And then once I started playing senior again, I realized how much I love the game and want to keep playing as long as I can.”

Simoneau was taking an Agricultural Equipment Technician course in Yorkton and the Langenburg Warriors Senior team reached out for him to play. He said it gave him the hockey bug once again.

Marian University was interesting in the 6-foot-5, 229 pound forward during his time with the Nipawin Hawks, but at the time Simoneau decided to pass on the offer. Through a recent text to the coach of the Sabres, and some help from former teammate and opponent Nolan Kadachuk, a deal was drawn up and Simoneau became an NCAA hockey play for the 2021/2022 season. Kadachuk played for the Melfort Mustangs during Simoneau’s time with the Hawks, and the two were teammates with the Tisdale Trojans in 2016/2017.

Marian won their conference championship this season, and Simoneau said it got him more excited to go there next season, but at the same time, he was regretting not being able to go this season. Simoneau said moving on to the NCAA level will be a big jump from Junior A.

“It’ll just be a little bit of a faster game,” he said. “And all around, just a really good experience.”

Simoneau spent all three of his Junior A seasons in Nipawin with the Hawks, making the playoffs in all three seasons and also winning an SJHL title in 2017/2018. Simoneau played 147 regular season games with the Hawks between 2017 and 2020, scoring 45 goals and adding 48 assists for 93 points. Those 45 goals are the most by anyone who wore a Hawks jersey during those three years, and the only one with more points was captain Jake Tremblay. Simoneau also had five goals and five assists in 25 playoff games over those three seasons.

“I can’t thank everyone in Nipawin, and the whole team, the whole organization enough for all the work they’ve done,” Simoneau said. “And how it’s kind of advanced me, not only as a hockey player, but as a man too.”

Along with Kadachuk, Simoneau joins former Hawks teammate Bronson Adams on the Sabres, as well as former SJHLer Ty Enns.
