City of Melfort adjusting as provincial COVID-19 restriction lift on Sunday

As Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 restrictions are removed as of Sunday, July 11, the City of Melfort is adjusting accordingly.

The city’s director of Development, Planning, and Community Relations Brent Lutz said since the pandemic began, they have followed the province’s lead on restrictions, and are doing so again with the latest adjustments.

“As of July 11, you will not be required to wear a mask or a face covering at city hall (or other city facilities),” he said. “Although it might be a reasonable precaution, as we all know, COVID-19 is still circulating.”

Capacity restrictions will be lifted as well at city facilities, and facilities won’t be taking down information for contact tracing.

The only place some capacity restrictions will remain for a bit will be the Northern Lights Palace Pool, but Lutz said that is less about COVID-19 and more so the safety of patrons as they get their staff trained the right way.

“We want to make sure that everybody is as safe as possible,” Lutz said. “We also don’t want to tax our staff with suddenly after 18 months of being closed, where they’re suddenly trying to manage a packed facility.”

Lutz said they will increase capacity at the pool to about 75 swimmers before officially removing the capacity limit. He said registration for swim times online is still encouraged for the time being.

Meanwhile, some COVID-19 protocols will remain in place for the City of Melfort. Lutz said sanitization stations will remain in place, and enhanced cleaning measures will also continue. He said that the pandemic has possibly brought these things to become the norm.

Melfort city council meetings will also move back to city hall council chambers as of July 12 after a few months of meetings at the Kerry Vickar Centre.
