A farmers’ market and a fall photo area will also be set up. The Northern Lights Wood Carvers group will be on hand with some demonstrations as well.

This particular event has been in the works for quite sometime according to Busby.

“Our committee has talked about this for a number of years, it is just really hard to get it off the ground. It is a lot of work and takes a lot of hands,” Busby said. “This year, we thought this is the year.”

The fall festival will be happening from noon until 4 p.m. making it a busy day in the city with the Melfort Multi-K taking place in the morning.

“We are hoping that when people are done with the multi-K, they might want to come over, have a hamburger, wander around the park and enjoy the day,” Busby said.

The veteran banner program is also underway for CiB and the number of applications has exceeded expectations. CiB partnered with the Melfort Legion for the program that will see commemorative banners on light poles beginning on Highway 6 near the Canalta Hotel down Saskatchewan Ave.

Saskatchewan Ave. will soon be officially designated as Veteran’s Way which was another project that CiB took on this year. Many other special projects were accomplished this summer including a vintage truck on Saskatchewan Ave. and a new Melfort sign on Broadway Ave.

The summer hasn’t been all roses for the group with some suspected theft at the community garden at Spruce Haven last week.

A post to the Melfort CiB Facebook page indicated that many beds were “being raided and cleaned out.” The public is being reminded by the group that the beds at the community garden are rentals and each plot is individually planted and tended to and to keep in mind that “if you didn’t plant it, you don’t pick it.”

Next on the agenda for the group will be fall cleanup that includes cleaning out planters and switching the vintage truck on Saskatchewan Ave to a fall theme from its current summer theme.

The group is also welcoming any interested members and volunteers to get involved.
