Broncos prepare for busy SJHL week starting with trip to Wilcox

Another busy week is coming up for the Humboldt Broncos.

The green and gold are heading to Wilcox Tuesday evening for an away game against the Hounds before meeting up with the Terriers in a home and home series starting Friday in Yorkton.

Head coach Scott Barney said the Hounds have made some line changes that they will be making note of for the trip down south.

“They’re a team that’s going to work extremely hard every shift, no matter what the score is, and arguably they’ve done that and won three of the last four games,” Barney told northeastNOW. “So they’re gonna be a team that’s gonna be relentless and we got to be at our best to beat them.”

The Terriers are not a team the Broncos will be playing too often but they will be looking at some video as the team prepares for the weekend contests.

Barney said the players need to work on consistency, not just for one or two periods but for the entire 60 minutes of play.

One thing that has been consistent for the Broncos has been strong scorers on the ice.

Conner McGrath, Alec Saretzky and Braiden Koran are leading the Broncos in points with 44 points between them and is a dominant line that their opponents have to contend with.

McGrath and Saretzky had a good showing in Warmen this past week at the SJHL Showcase with each taking home a hat trick during games against Weyburn and Estevan, which Barney hopes will help them take their hockey careers to the next level.

“Koran is a power forward”, said Barney. “Which really gives his fellow linemates some room as he hunts down the puck.”

Liam Stevens had a rough first game in Warmen against Weyburn but Barney said he will be getting a second chance this week in the net.

Fans can cheer on the Broncos at the Oct. 16 home game against Yorkton with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m. at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
