Bob Jackson, Icemaker at the Tisdale Recplex, was also the co-chair and event organizer for said provincial championships and told northeastNOW the event went as good as he could have possibly wanted, as the curling was fantastic and the crowd was plentiful.

“We had lots of parents and grandparents out. It was better crowds than we had anticipated, so that part was very positive.”

“The curling was excellent. Those young people are up and coming in their own rights, lots of great young curlers coming along. They’ll be in much brighter places than this if they keep curling the way they did, they did very well.”

Jackson also said, after having five provincial events cancelled this past February due to the pandemic that were supposed to happen in Tisdale, he was just thrilled to have an event at all, which influenced his decision to make admission free which may have also led to the bigger crowds.

“We weren’t sure right up until the end if this would happen, but it did and it turned out very very well. When the CurlSask people left, they were very satisfied with what we had done here.”

“We had people here from all over the province, so that was very nice to see. The comments were all very positive, they’re all willing to come back to Tisdale, so that’s very positive.”

And for Jackson, it’s not only the fans who want to come back. This event has opened the doors for future events both because of how much the curlers and CurlSask enjoyed it in Tisdale, he said.

“The curlers were very happy with the way we had the ice and the way it worked,” said Jackson. “I never heard a negative word all weekend, so that was very refreshing. As far as we’re concerned, we’re ready to put on any events that we’re offered. We’re on CurlSask’s reader now for doing a successful event and that’s what they’re used to, so I think it worked out for everyone.”
