Muenster Red Sock commits to Williston College for fall of 2022

Yet another member of the Muenster Red Sox organization will be pursuing a higher level of baseball, as Dylan Smith, a 17-year old outfielder from Humboldt has committed to Williston College in North Dakota.

Smith’s campaign at Williston will begin in the fall of 2022, as he is currently in Grade 12 and has to finish high school.

Smith told northeastNOW Williston was the best choice for him because of the conversations he had with the coach, as well as the high regard he holds the college in as a whole.

“I asked a lot of questions to the coach and he had a lot of great answers, really the responses I wanted to hear. Their facilities are also top-notch and I think it’s going to be a great environment.”

Smith, who said the program at Williston is two years, is currently staying focused on his time at the College, however, he said he is hopeful for opportunities beyond as well.

“I’m hoping to go here for two years and hopefully, prove myself and then maybe get further opportunities with higher-level clubs after that. I’m really looking at getting stronger and being a better person on and off the field and just working hard to get better.”

And Smith is excited to continue to evolve, however, he knows how much he already has in just his one season with Muenster and knows how great of an opportunity it was to play with the team.

“That was huge obviously, it’s probably the most competitive league for U18 in the province, you’re playing against top-notch level players, who are also going to go to school. It’s just great to play against those types of guys, in that kind of competitive environment.”

One of the things that also helped Smith tremendously was one of his coaches, Chad Hofmann, whose son Logan, also played for the Red Sox and then went on to become the highest-drafted Saskatchewan-born player ever to be selected in the MLB Draft.

“Coach Hofmann has been great, he takes the time to work with guys, one on one, he puts in the extra time. He helped fix my swing a lot during this last year, so it’s been great, having him help me out along the way.”

And Smith knows Logan was a part of that too, as he proved it was possible to make it, regardless if you’re a kid from small-town Saskatchewan.

“As a younger kid playing baseball, always watching the triple-A team in Muenster and they were really competitive when Logan played there, they actually won provincials, so seeing him go on to the next level, for the young kids around here it puts it into perspective that it’s a possibility, if you work hard enough, that could be you one day.”
