Marysburg Royals holding annual baseball camp and clinic over weekend

Baseball season seems to finally have arrived in Saskatchewan, which means baseball camps are fast approaching.

Locally, the Marysburg Royals will hold its 10th Annual Baseball Camp and Clinic on May 4 and 5 at the Marysburg Sports Grounds.

Camp Organizer Curtis Strueby said the camp has been a success over the years for many reasons, including the fact that they draw from such a wide range.

“Like most things nowadays, there’s not a lot of opportunity for younger athletes, in any sport to take part in things like this in rural Saskatchewan,” Strueby told northeastNOW. “You generally have to go to larger centres to do this, so I think that has a lot to do with it as well.”

Players at the camp will receive instruction by players of the Royals Senior Baseball team. The first day of camp is for players born between 2010 and 2012. Strueby said that day is mainly them teaching more basic skills of baseball such as fielding, hitting, throwing, and a little bit of baserunning. On day two, players born between 2006 and 2009 take part in the camp.

“We got a little more in depth that day,” Strueby said. “Just some of the finer points of some of the skills and the kids are older, so they can manage to take that all in and try and apply the skills that we teach.”

Strueby said they have tinkered with the age groups over the past years to have the best, and as even as possible groups. He added that they will cap the camp at 120 players total. They have already sold out the first day, but Strueby said there is still room for the older players on day two. Strueby added to keep an eye on social media and radio in th event of the camp being cancelled due to weather.

Players can contact Strueby at 306-231-6392 to register for the camps.
