The Nipawin Hawks will play Saturday’s game in La Ronge with a new head coach.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League club announced today that after 11 and a half seasons, the team is parting ways with General Manager and Head Coach Doug Johnson.

“We thank Doug for his 11 and a half years of service and dedication to our organization. He helped to revive our organization and bring it back to life, several years ago. However, now we believe it is time for a change,” the statement from the Board of Directors stated.

Johnson is a three-time SJHL coach of the year, their winningest coach in franchise history, and guided the team to an SJHL championship in 2018.

The Hawks are currently tied for eighth place in the SJHL standings going into the matchup with the Ice Wolves.

Assistant Coach Tad Kozun will take over on an interim basis.

Faceoff is 7:30 p.m., the game will be broadcast on Saskatchewan’s New Beach Radio beginning at 7:15 p.m.
