Humboldt is encouraging people to see what the city has to offer with a series of promotional videos.

“The six promotional videos that give us a new community profile and target the areas of what Humboldt and area are about; mining, farming, industry and more.”

The city focused on promoting a healthy family and healthy lifestyle. New sports court flooring was installed in the curling rink which allows the city to utilize the facility year-round.

“It saw a great deal of use and it shows our community is very concerned about an active lifestyle.”

There have also been additions to Water Ridge Park including new play structures and a pickleball court. The city is also working with Bill Brecht Park to do similar upgrades.

The Humboldt and District Hospital Complex was given a new outdoor space in June. The urban garden sanctuary was made possible by a team of dedicated volunteers.

The Glenn Hall Irrigation Project is saving money for the city and giving an eco-friendly footprint to the city.

“We went from treated water to reclaimed water from the water-rich pond which has reclaimed water from the surface and rain,” Behiel added. “We use that to water Glenn Hall park and our golf courses. That water will drain back and be reused over and over again. “

Humboldt residents have some of the lowest property tax increases across the province with a two per cent increase this year and an 8.2 per cent increase seen over the past four years.

Behiel said 2021 was a record year for capital projects, including a new water main and putting in an outdoor skating and summer flex space.

In 2022, the city is looking forward to their partnership with BHP.

“They have been a big supporter to our economy. They are very socially conscious and have already come forward to say what can we do as we want to provide the best quality of living to Humboldt and surrounding areas.”

Despite the uncertainty of the past few years, Behiel said the city has regained control and is moving forward in a positive direction.

“You should be proud of your city and elected officials. We are doing everything we can to keep Humboldt as the best place to live, work and play.”
