The museum in Melfort is looking for donations to replace planks on the boardwalk in their pioneer village.

Phase two of ‘thanks for the planks’ has a goal of $5,000 to make repairs, replace and make an addition to the boardwalk.

According to museum curator Gail Marie Anderson, the boardwalk is a very important part of the museum experience.

“We take tours on their, lots of school kids walking and playing on there so you don’t want any mis-repairs on them,” Anderson said.

Phase one of the campaign in 2007 brought in almost $7,000 where a donor sign was created which they called, ‘thanks for the planks.’ The donor sign remains in the entrance of the museum.

Anderson said they are looking for donations of $10 to have a name added to the sign.

“Over the last couple of years, we have had to replace quite a few and we need to do more now and we’ve also had to build new buildings which means extending the boardwalk,” Anderson said.

The museum staff is currently working to de-winterize the grounds and buildings so they can open for the season at the end of May.

Kids summer camp takes place each Thursday in July and August and community barbecues get underway on June 12.

Every Wednesday night throughout the summer, the museum hosts barbecues with funds going towards museum programming.
