Mustangs fall in yet another overtime affair, this time to Ice Wolves
The Melfort Mustangs probably played well enough to earn two points and a win on Friday, Feb. 11 in La Ronge, but the Mustangs fell 3-2 in overtime to their Sherwood division rivals.
It was a game where it felt like Melfort carried play for most of the game, and the team thought so as well. Although, a late third period goal by the Ice Wolves, and a breakaway in overtime sealed the Mustangs fate.
“It’s sad because I figured the boys did put an honest effort in tonight,” said assistant coach Dan Meyers. “We were physical, we put pucks towards the net, we skated hard, we did everything we set out to do but just didn’t get a good outcome out of it.”
Aaron Greyeyes opened the scoring for La Ronge on their first shot of the game just 4:27 during a stretch where it felt Melfort was controlling play.
