Fouquette to represent Saskatchewan at Aboriginal Hockey Championships
Nipawin Hawks defenseman Tre Fouquette has been named to Team Saskatchewan for the upcoming National Aboriginal Hockey Championships next month.
Fouquette, 17, said he is humbled to be named to the team that will compete in Membertou, Nova Scotia from May 7 to 14.
“I thought it’s an honour for sure,” Fouquette told northeastNOW. “I am jacked for the tournament. I think the main goal is to bring back a championship. We’re going to try and do that and have fun while we’re doing it.”
Fouquette hails from Warman and played his AAA under-18 hockey in Prince Albert for the Mintos. He spent time with the Raiders in the Western Hockey League before being reassigned to the La Ronge Ice Wolves in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League before being traded to Nipawin on Jan. 10. All those markets have an above average First Nation population. Fouquette said to represent Aboriginal people from those communities that have supported him is a remarkable feeling.
