Employees safe after equipment fire at Vanscoy potash mine

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of an equipment fire at Nutrien’s Vanscoy potash mine on Tuesday evening.

The mine is located about 30 minutes southwest of Saskatoon.

In a brief statement Wednesday, Nutrien spokesperson Megan Fielding said the fire occurred in a “localized area.”

Everyone on site and underground at the time is back on the surface, and mine operations are being restored.

Fielding said no interruptions to production are expected.
