‘He’ll leave a big hole here’: Moulds retiring after 44 years in the car industry

A long-time member of Melfort, and Riverside Chrysler in Melfort has decided to retire.

After 44 years in the car industry, Kevin Moulds has decided to call it quits. He said it was time to retire.

“Everybody has to kind of make that plan at some time, and we’ve been thinking a long time,” Moulds told northeastNOW. “I have four beautiful grandchildren that have come about in the last two years, and one more on the way. I just look back at our parents and my wife’s parents and how them being hands on and helping the kids grow and helping our kids become tremendously good individuals.”

Moulds started in the car industry in 1976 in Regina and spent nine years there before moving to Melfort in 1985. He began working in Melfort for Plymouth Chrysler, which then turned into Sunshine Chrysler, which is now Riverside. Moulds said even being in the industry for this long, there’s always more to learn.

“Everything has changed,” he said. “Obviously technology has gone through the roof. The evolvement of all the safety items, and the quietness, and the speed and power and performance has changed dramatically.”

Moulds added the one thing that remains consistent is that people keep buying cars.

“People are fun, people are the car business,” Moulds said. “You meet some tremendously skilled individuals over the years, everybody has their own idea about what they need, what they want and you kind of help them evolve into what they’d like to have.”

Moulds has done it all in the car business, especially at Riverside, or its other versions. He has been the finance manager, business manager, sales manager, leasing manager, dealer principle, and his current position; a product specialist.

Not only has Moulds done it all at Riverside, he’s also done plenty of volunteering in the community. He spent 14 years around the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, namely as a governor and a board member for the Melfort Mustangs. Moulds was also the Chamber of Commerce president for a number of years, and he was also a member of the Kinsmen Club. He said he’s loved volunteering in Melfort.

“The volunteer time in Melfort has been tremendous for us as well,” Moulds said. “It’s been a blessing I might say, all the friends we’ve met, all of the people that we’ve got to know over the years and that’s never going to change.”

Doug Kurtenbach is currently the general manager at Riverside, and said Kevin will be missed when he leaves.

“Kevin is a great guy,” Kurtenbach told northeastNOW. “He’s a great asset to the company, and a great salesman, and just a good guy all around. He’ll leave a big hole here.”

Moulds said he moved to Kipabiskau Regional Park in 2009 and he plans to spend retirement there. His last day at Riverside will be Friday, May 31 and there will be a celebration at the dealership.
