Melfort and area residents can have their painting skills showcased in a mural at the historic post office in the city.

Five workshops are being held over a two-week span at the building on Main Street for children to adults. All are invited to paint tiles for the upcoming mural.

Brenda Mellon is one of three artists behind the mural and said it will be quite extensive.

“We will be working on it over the summer, and it will be finished by the end of October,” Mellon said.

The two other artists in the artwork are Joanne Bolen and Randi Lalonde.

The historic post office postal box donor wall will also be included in the 36×10 foot art piece.

“The city sold a number of post office boxes so those will also be included as part of the overall piece,” Mellon said. “The focus is on celebrating the history of postal services in Canada.”

Workshops will begin on May 28 and will run until June 5. To register for the workshops, visit the City of Melfort website.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come be part of history,” Mellon said.

The mural will join the many other improvements made on the historic building including the new windows that were installed over the winter months.
