Season-long battle over for Broncos in heartbreaking semi-final game five loss

Some beautiful saves stopped the Broncos short as they fell 1-0 to the Flin Flon Bombers in game five in their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League second-round series.

With that, the Broncos season is over as the series came to a finish, 4-1 in favour of Flin Flon.

Every game in this series came down to one goal and Broncos assistant coach Rhett Blackmur said that the scoreboard doesn’t tell the whole story.

“We outplayed them, outworked them, we just didn’t get the bounces.”

The lone goal of the game came from a wide bounce off Bomber Jacob Vockler which Broncos goalie Rayce Ramsay was unable to stop. The Broncos couldn’t find the equalizer with many chances in the Flin Flon zone being stopped cold by Cal Schell.

“Anytime a goalie gets hot at the right time, it’s never good for the opposing team,” said Blackmur “We had to try and take advantage of that and try to get pucks in the net. We tried our best and we played well.”

The Broncos now look toward next season with eight Broncos set to graduate, including captain Kade Olsen who has been with the team since the 2017-2018 season.

Each player brings something to the team whether that is leadership or a certain set of skills, according to Blackmur.

“Whoever it is, brings in elements of the team that we wanted here this year, and you’re wishing them the best in the future and we’re always here for them.”
