After making waves throughout the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season, two Humboldt Broncos caught the attention of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).

Forward Connor McGrath and goalie Rayce Ramsay made the cut for the CJHL’s Top Rookie and Top Goaltender respectively for their work during the 2021-2022 season.

Both nominees are up against four others in each category from the nine junior hockey leagues across the country, however, no other nominees were from the SJHL.

Ramsay, the graduated 20-year-old from Saskatoon, had a phenomenal season with a record breaking 41 wins in the Bronco net, as well as nine losses out of 50 starts on the Bronco line.

Ramsay also ended his junior career with a 0.930 save percentage and nearly 4,500 regular-season minutes in the Bronco net, 3,000 this season alone, a number that no other goalie in any junior league in the country was able to replicate.

Ramsay has committed to the USport University of Toronto team for the 2022-2023 season.

McGrath as well had an award winning season.

The 2003-born forward from LeRoy, Sask., spent most of his rookie season leading the SJHL on the scoring leaderboard, including finishing his first regular junior season with 84 points in 56 games, including 35 goals and 49 assists.

Both players also took home awards from the SJHL for their efforts.

The winners will be decided by a voting procedure completed by each of the CJHL’s nine-member leagues.
