Mustangs acquire second piece of five-month-old trade

The Melfort Mustangs took nearly five months to decide, but they finally got “their guy”.

Back on January 10th, the Mustangs completed a trade which sent Danny Ciccarello to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, in exchange for Clarke Huxley and future considerations.

Those future considerations have now turned into present-day talent, in the form of 2003-born forward Aidyn Hutchinson.

In his first season of Junior ‘A’ hockey, Hutchinson scored four goals and added nine assists for the Oil Barons in 42 regular-season games. The St. Albert, Alta. product would add four assists in 10 playoff games this year.

In a press release sent to northeastNOW, Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins commented on his newest acquisition.

“Aidyn will be an impact player in our lineup right from day one. His veteran presence and experience will be huge assets in our dressing room,” said Blevins. “Furthermore, his skill and compete level will ensure he is an elite player in our league.”

Hutchinson would also get a taste of Junior hockey in 2020/2021 as he played five games for the Oil Barons during the COVID-shortened season, but did not get on the scoresheet. The 6’1”, 174 lbs forward played in five games for the St. Albert Raiders U18 AAA squad in 2020/2021 as well, notching eight assists.

Back in 2019/2020, Hutchinson was seventh in U18 AA league scoring as he tallied 57 points in 30 games with the St. Albert Steel. That was also good for second on his team.

The Mustangs organization is excited to welcome Aidyn to both the club and the City of Melfort, for the upcoming 2022/23 season.
