Jul 12, 2022 | 2:51 PM

The boys of summer are back will be back on the diamonds soon as playoff season starts for a Saskatchewan baseball league.

The regular season for the Highway 3 Baseball League wrapped up this past weekend and now the rush to the Labatts Cup begins.

“Everyone was pretty excited with how the second season went here and excited to get into playoffs,” said board member and player with the Birch Hills Brewers, Adam Morrison. “It’s the season that matters.”

This is only the second season for the league after Birch Hills won the competition last year.

Birch Hills and Humboldt have automatic byes to the next round after finishing in the top two in the league standings. They await the winners of the wild card games with Tisdale taking on Pasquia and Prince Albert playing Porcupine Plain.

Overall Morrison said it was a successful regular season.

“From a league perspective, there was a ton of parity this year which was nice to see. It was almost going to come down right to the last game to see where the standing finish.”

The playoffs start Tuesday night as the Pasquia Angels host the Tisdale Rangers in Arborfield.

Prince Albert visits Porcupine Plain on Thursday.
