Search still on for missing mushroom picker

Aug 8, 2022 | 5:31 PM

Police are still trying to find a woman missing north of Smeaton and are looking for help with the search.

The RCMP are taking help from the public in the search but stress that it is important that volunteers be familiar with the area.

People are also asked to wear brightly coloured clothing and must check in with the search manager beforehand.

The search base is three kilometres east off of Highway #106, approximately 33 km north of Smeaton.

All searchers must be signed in to ensure the search is both methodological and to ensure the searchers’ safety.

Along with bright clothing, searchers should have proper footwear, food, drink and emergency supplies and be aware there is no cell service in the area.

Lois Chartrand has been missing in the dense forest along the Hanson Lake Road between Prince Albert and Nipawin for five days now.

Chartrand was picking mushrooms with a friend in the area when they became separated. The following morning, police managed to make contact with her by radio, but have not been able to locate her.

She is an experienced mushroom picker.

Police are looking for help finding Chartrand and put out a call several days ago asking for people who know the area well to help with the grid search.
