Humboldt & District Chamber of Commerce to move locations

Sep 1, 2022 | 5:33 PM

After 22 years of operating at the Humboldt Historic Campground, the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce is announcing its departure from the Tourist Information Booth as of October 31, 2022.

“It is with mixed emotions that we will soon find ourselves in a new base of operations,” said Chamber of Commerce president, Tammy Ward, in a press release sent to northeastNOW.

“Running the campground and tourist information booth has been an integral part of our Chamber of Commerce for more than two decades, however, the move to a new office space, that will act as a base of operations for decades to come, is very exciting.”

Beginning November 1, 2022, the Chamber of Commerce will call the former Land Titles Office, in the Courthouse building, home. Their offices will be located on the far west end of the building.

“The move to our new offices allows the Chamber of Commerce to be based in a totally independent space with no perception of bias or favouritism. It is very exciting for this board to serve our business community at a time that will mark the beginning of a new chapter for our Chamber of Commerce,” said Ward.

The identification of the Courthouse building came after an intensive search of available properties in the downtown core of the City of Humboldt.

The board of directors unanimously voted in favour of this new location on July 13, 2022, during a special board meeting.

“The Courthouse building has acted as an anchor for the City of Humboldt for a century in its location at the very heart of the city. It brings with it, by its very physical structure, a solidity and sense of presence that we will embrace and grow with,” said Brent Fitzpatrick, the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce.

According to Fitzpatrick, this fundamental change in the business model for the Chamber of Commerce, future endeavours, far removed from the day-to-day operations of a campground and tourist information booth, are going to be explored with great zeal.

“A great example of this will be the Business Incubator that we began to look at earlier this year that will assist businesses of all sizes throughout the region for years to come. The operation of the campground took all the resources of the Chamber of Commerce for a period of five months. That time will be now re-allocated for other projects and efforts aimed at supporting and growing our business community.”
