RCMP locate man accused of setting house on fire

A man wanted by the RCMP in relation to a serious incident two months ago at Cumberland House Cree Nation is behind bars.

Lawrence McGillivary, 29, was arrested on Saturday.

The incident happened on July 25. McGillivary was reportedly uttering threats at a home in the Cree Nation.

When RCMP members arrived, the home was on fire and local fire services were called to extinguish the blaze. While the interior of the home was heavily damaged, there were no injuries reported.

While investigating this incident, officers received a report of a separate assault that happened earlier this year.

According to information provided by the RCMP, the assault relates to choking, strangling or suffocating. McGillivary was in court Monday at Cumberland House.
