Early Frustration

Mustangs looking to snap three-game skid in Notre Dame

Oct 11, 2022 | 8:40 AM

Only 11 games into the season, the Mustangs are hoping to snap a little bit of a skid as they hit the road on Tuesday night.

They’ll be in Notre Dame to take on the Hounds in the team’s third meeting of the season. Melfort is looking to break out of a three-game losing streak where they’ve lost two in overtime during that stretch and have been outscored 12-5.

Mustang forward Boston Maxwell said the most frustrating part of the stretch has been the small lapses in their own zone.

“We’re letting the odd play come into our zone and not having our guys once in a while, and it’s costing us,” he said. “We’ve been creating some really good opportunities for ourselves too, but we’re just snakebitten right now. But it’ll come.”

Melfort’s last win came against the Hounds back on Oct. 1 at the Palace in Melfort by a 6-1 score. The Mustangs also won their other meeting with the Hounds back at the SJHL Showcase in Warman 4-0.

While the success has been there against the Hounds, Maxwell said they’ve got to be sure not to take the 2-6-0-1 Hounds lightly.

“At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to our effort, and if we can outwork a team, we have a chance with anyone in the league,” Maxwell said. “It’s a close league where anyone can beat anyone, so if we don’t show up, it’s not going to be good, but if we come out swinging and play our game, we’re definitely going to have a good chance there.”

The Hounds have also lost three games in a row, which includes that 6-1 game in Melfort just a over a week ago.

Tuesday’s game can be heard on 105 CJVR with puck drop at 8 p.m. and the pre-game show at 7:45 p.m.
