Humboldt to host fall job fair

Oct 19, 2022 | 4:19 PM

The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a fall Job Fair and Staff Development Day, this Saturday, October 22 at the Uniplex.

The region, like so many others around the country, is facing an extreme staffing shortage and the fall Job Fair is hoping to address that shortage.

“We’re just trying to help businesses be successful and stay integrated into our communities,” said executive director Brent Fitzpatrick. “Talking to business owners, I think in the last six months, I’ve had one business say that they’re okay, for staff.”

Every business—nearly without exception—is looking for people. No matter the field of endeavour, large companies or small, there is a great opportunity to explore a change for yourself.

“There’s also a lot of people that are looking to make a change in their life and looking at that next opportunity that will present itself.”

The event will provide a centralized place to allow prospective staff to drop by and converse with businesses at their table in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Job Fair will be running from 11-5 with no admission charge.

In addition, the Cultural Services Department will be putting on a creative wood ornament painting event for children at no charge.

Following the event, Corliss Rassyle will bring her message of ‘Being the Best You’ during their evening supper.

“She’s very good, proficient, and engaging, and people will leave that evening with all of the tools they need to kind of make that fundamental change in their life and look at the horizon and their work life, as something to enjoy.”

The meal will be the last BBQ of the season, with chicken and ribs along with a BBQ favourite for dessert, which will cost $30 per person or $200 for a table of eight.

The Chamber also wanted to thank its sponsors for allowing them to put on the day, which includes BHP, Carlton Trail College, Schuler Lefebvre Funeral Home, Shine Media, Canadian Tire Humboldt and the City of Humboldt.
