A Nipawin woman is facing charges after an incident with a machete.

RCMP have accused the woman of holding a machete to the throat of one victim while making threats.

Police said it happened near a home on Third Street North in Nipawin, around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 29.

Police said 25-year-old Tylene Stewart faces various charges, including assault, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats. She’s due in provincial court in Nipawin on November 23.

Around 8 a.m. on the same day, Nipawin RCMP got a report about a woman who was wanted on kidnapping charges. RCMP said officers obtained a search warrant, went to a home in Nipawin, and arrested a woman wanted on charges of kidnapping, assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, and 10 other charges.

RCMP said the charges stem from an incident at Shoal Lake in May of this year.

Elizabeth Lathlin, 32, of Shoal Lake was arrested without incident. She’s due in provincial court in Nipawin on November 24.

Over the weekend, Saskatchewan RCMP said they were very busy with reports of motor vehicle collisions, mostly because of the weekend snowstorm. Police were called to 61 collisions on Saturday, and 68 collisions on Sunday. That comprised 60 per cent of the crashes for the previous week.
