Hague company fined after worker injured on job

A company based in the town of Hague has been fined $90,000 after a worker was seriously injured after falling off a work platform.

King Stud Contracting Ltd. pled guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Dec. 8 to one count of violating ‘The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996.’

The company was facing four other charges; however, each was stayed.

The employee who was injured was working in Saskatoon on Feb. 19, 2021, when they fell off the platform.

“Employers are required to provide safe and healthy workplaces and must provide information, training, and experience necessary for employees to perform their jobs safely,” the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety said in a press release.

Along with the $90,000 fine, the company was also handed a $36,000 surcharge. This brings the total amount they need to pay up to $126,000.
