The Melfort Mustangs have added some blueline depth for their future years.

The team announced early Wednesday that 2005-born defenceman Josh Hogman has committed to the organization for the 2023/24 season.

The six-foot, 165-pound blueliner from Spruce Grove, Alta., has been playing this season with the Lloydminster Bobcats U18 AAA club in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL).

In 31 games, Hogman has three goals and 10 assists for 13 points.

“Josh is a well-rounded defenceman that skates very well,” said Mustangs’ head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins. “He likes to jump up in the rush and create plays. We’re excited to welcome him to our blue line.”

Hogman is the second Bobcat the Blue and Green have acquired for next year, as just two weeks ago, Will Porter announced his commitment.

The two were at the Circle K Classic with their squad, over the holiday break, where in four games, Hogman scored twice and added a helper for three points.

Prior to his time in Lloydminster, the D-man played the 2021-22 season with the PAC Spruce Grove Saints U18 AA club.

He notched 11 points in 30 games that season, as well as one goal in four playoff games.
