Mustangs and Ice Wolves meet in possible playoff preview
Arguably the biggest weekend of the year for the Melfort Mustangs kicks off tonight as the Mustangs host the La Ronge Ice Wolves to open up a home-and-home set.
Melfort has won seven of their last ten games, and have also earned points in five straight contest. The Mustangs currently sit in fifth place in the SJHL with 62 points. Forward Wyatt Cook said the team knows what’s at stake.
“Emotions are high, these are two really big games, and we’re in a bit of a race here with these guys,” he said. “So, we’re going to come in strong and hard and we want all four points here.”
Those four points would also go a long way in securing home ice advantage in the first round as these two clubs would meet in round one of the SJHL Playoffs if they started today. Just one point separates the Sherwood Division rivals, but Melfort does hold two games in hand on La Ronge.
