The Melfort Mustangs have announced a new addition to their group for the 2023/24 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

2004-born forward Mathieu Pigeon will join the blue and green, later this fall.

The 6-1, 165-pound, Rivere-du-Loup, Quebec product, spent the last two seasons with the Champlain St. Lawrence Lions of the Quebec Collegiate Hockey League (QCHL).

In 33 games this season, he scored 11 goals and added 16 assists, for 27 points. His 27 points were good for third on the team, while his 11 goals were tied for second.

Meanwhile, during this year’s playoffs, Pigeon finished with a goal and three assists in five games, good for a tie for second among his group.

“Mathieu is a well-rounded player that plays the game the right way,” said Mustangs head coach and general manager, Trevor Blevins. “He plays with a high compete level and his character will fit nicely in our room next season.”

As for previous years, during the 2021/2022 season with the Lions, he scored seven times and added eight helpers for 15 points in 34 games.

And, prior to his time at Champlain St. Lawrence, Pigeon spent the previous two seasons of his U18 career split between College Notre-Dame (QMAAA), and Riviere-du-Loup Albatros (QMEAA).
