City of Humboldt releases statement on current state of golf course

Jul 27, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The City of Humboldt has provided more details on the state of operations for the Humboldt Golf Course.

Last December, the Humboldt Golf Club appeared before City Council explaining they were in financial difficulty and asked council to provide support to ensure the golf course would open for the 2023 season.

In response, City Council provided conditional funding of $130,000 and created the Humboldt Golf Course Governance Committee which consists of members of City Council and the golf club.

They have been meeting every month to look at options to keep the golf course operational past 2023.

“The City will continue to work with the Committee to assist HGC with the hope of achieving a successful 2023 season, as well as finding solutions to financial matters necessary to ensure that the golf course continues to be the recreational and economic attraction that it is for our community and for the region,” the statement reads.

The golf course has been in the community for more than 75 years, initially as a 9-hole golf course and then by 2000 as an 18-hole golf course. The City owns the land the course sits upon and has a lease agreement with the golf club to provide all golf operations at the course.

All course buildings, improvements, and equipment needed for golf operations are the property of the Humboldt Golf Club and are funded by their operations.
