Melfort, union reach deal

Collective bargaining agreement reached between city, employee union

The City of Melfort has reached an agreement with the union representing its workers.

The three-year collective bargaining agreement between the city and CUPE Local 777 will see employees covered under the agreement receive a 3 per cent wage increase in 2024, a 4 per cent hike in 2025, and a 3.5 per cent increase for 2026.

The agreement also resulted in a slight increase in the employee benefit package.

“This agreement stands as a testament to our community to foster relationships with our employees, while ensuring the efficient delivery of essential services to our community,” said Mayor Glenn George.

“Through diligent negotiation and collaboration, both parties have reached a fair and equitable agreement. I commend the efforts of all involved in this process and look forward to continuing cooperation as we work together to uphold the terms of this agreement and serve the residents of Melfort.”

The city said in a news release they acknowledge “the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by CUPE Local 777 throughout the negotiation process and (look) forward to continuing to work together.”
